Street Fighter V’s story expands through free DLC
It’s possible that even experienced Street Fighter players have lost track of its dense, sprawling mythology.
Entire wikis are devoted to sorting out the events between games. Individual fighters have distinct character arcs and elaborate backstories to explain signing up for global fighting tournaments.
Street Fighter V continues the tradition with the usual assortment of Arcade mode stories to link each match. But according to Capcom, they’ll serve as prologues for the Street Fighter V cinematic story expansion.
Taking place between Street Fighter IV and Street Fighter III, its being hyped as “the first time in franchise history that fans will be able to play through this type of cinematic story experience in a Street Fighter game.” The promise is to knit together the convoluted relationship between the previous two games.
Street Fighter IV took place before the events of Street Fighter III, so fans will appreciate filling in events before moving further into the epic fight saga. A post-release story expansion tells us that Capcom’s priorities lie in stable multiplayer code and game balance. Which is good, cause Street Fighter is about fighting in the streets, after all.
Street Fighter V will release on PlayStation 4, Windows and Linux PCs and on February 16. Before then, the fourth and final beta will run from January 30-31 as a bonus to fans and supporters. For more details on the beta, visit the official site.
