Alex revealed as first post-launch character
Capcom will be adding Alex today as the first post-launch character for Street Fighter V. A fan favorite, Alex made his debut back in 1997 in Street Fighter III. Orphaned at a young age, it was his father’s friend who raised him and taught him everything he knows to become the grappler he is today. Alex will be ready for battle beginning today for all Street Fighter V players on PS4 and PC.
Along with Alex, Capcom added the In-Game Shop currency called Fight Money which lets players spend their hard earned cash to purchase extra game content, such as new characters (100,000 FM each) and Story Mode Costumes (40,000 FM each). Additional content will be announced at a later date.
With the use of real currency (aka Zenny) for the In-Game Shop currently unavailable, Alex is offered for free to all players until the Zenny becomes available. This also applies to any future DLC character that’s released prior to the Zenny shop being launched. Once the Zenny shop is online, free trial for DLC characters that were released before the Zenny shop opens will end, and players will need to use Fight Money, Zenny, or the Season Pass to access those characters.
Earlier this week, several new Street Fighter V game updates and enhancements were made available to players, including:
- Challenge Mode
- Online Rematch Option
- Battle Lounge Improvements
- Enjoy up to 8 person lobbies, complete with match spectating.
- Numerous bug fixes and game improvements

Also as a thank you to their fans for being patient with the beta phases and game launch, Capcom is giving away Ryu and Chun-Li’s Story Mode costumes to all users for free starting today. Capcom is also planning on releasing new characters, modes and enhancements throughout 2016.
